Program Overview:

The Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery is a unified program offered by the College of Medicine. The department does not grant an independent degree but contributes, in coordination with eleven other departments, to awarding the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree.

About the Department: The Department of Otolaryngology was established with the founding of the College of Medicine in 1428H 2007 following the visit of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to the Northern Border Region. Teaching in the department commenced in 1433H with the introduction of the Otolaryngology course for male and female medical students.

To achieve excellence in education and scientific research in the field of Otolaryngology and to contribute to improving community health at the local level.

Mission:

To prepare qualified medical professionals in Otolaryngology who meet labor market needs, conduct rigorous scientific research, contribute to the development of modern diagnostic methods, and support the treatment of patients at the local level.

Objectives:

  • Teaching Objectives:

The department delivers the Otolaryngology course in the fourth year. The theoretical component covers the anatomy and physiology of the external, middle, and inner ear and their common disorders. It also includes the anatomy and functions of the nose, paranasal sinuses, pharynx, larynx, and neck, along with selected common diseases.
The practical and clinical component focuses on developing students’ skills in taking medical history, performing clinical examinations of the ear, nose, and throat, identifying commonly used clinical instruments and diagnostic tests, and gaining familiarity with selected surgical procedures in the specialty.

  • Research Objectives:

The department conducts research in various areas of Otolaryngology that contribute to serving the community and the surrounding environment.

The Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery program spans six academic years, including the first preparatory health track year, distributed over twelve academic levels.
